Lakes and Amphitheatre Project

Construction works are progressing as planned for the UQ Lakes Renewal and Amphitheatre Upgrade Project. The Site location and impacts to pathways, roads and bicycle lanes remain the same as shown on the attached site map.

Affected Areas

  • Pedestrian and cyclist pathways are closed for the entirety of the works. Refer attached map for alternative routes.
  • Noisy works will continue into next week in the amphitheatre due to site clearing and tree removal activities.
  • Construction vehicle movements/deliveries will noticeably increase around College Road, Thynne Road and Jocks Road. Impacted stakeholders will be notified in more detail as required.
  • The UQ neighbourhood / community can expect a level of odour to become present as the lake is dewatered.

    • Continue dewatering & defishing activities

    • Remaining site clearing, stump grinding and stump removal

9 May 2022 – 15 May 2022

  • Lake Works
    • Continue dewatering & defishing activities
  • Amphitheatre Works
    • Demolition of existing retaining wall

16 May 2022 – 22 May 2022

  • Lake Works
    • Continue dewatering of the lake
  • Amphitheatre Works
    • Commence initial strip of topsoil
    • Commence bulk earthworks

Project details

  • The iconic UQ lake and amphitheatre is being transformed into a self-sustaining ecosystem that offers habitat for wildlife and more opportunities for people to enjoy the area.
