Lake and Amphitheatre Renewal Progress

Construction works for the UQ Lake Renewal and Amphitheatre Renewal Project are progressing with dewatering of the lake almost complete and mass soil mixing commencing in the coming weeks.

The site location and impacts to pathways, roads and bicycle lanes is shown here. 

Affected Areas

  • Pedestrian and cyclist pathways are closed for the entirety of the works. Refer attached site map for alternative routes.
  • Traffic control will be in place on Jocks & College Road to manage vehicle movements
  • The UQ neighbourhood / community can expect a level of odour to become present as the lake is dewatered and stabilised.
  • Road closure at corner of College Road & Thynne Road. Access to Colleges via College Road and access to P11 via Thynne Road.

Work details
27 June 2022 – 3 July 2022

  • Lake Works
    • from the 27th of June, the contractor will be establishing a new access to the main lake from College Rd
      • refer to the Traffic Guidance Scheme for more information on the impacts to College Road
      • access to all colleges will be maintained using traffic control during the day
    • continue dewatering and de-fishing of the lake
    • island tree trimming
    • establishment of mass soil mixing equipment on College/Thynne Road
  • Amphitheatre Works
    • commence initial topsoil strip
    • expect noise from construction vehicles

4 July 2022 – 10 July 2022

  • Lake Works
    • traffic control may continue on College Road to enable access to the lake
    • shallow mixing of soil within the lake will commence
    • multiple truck deliveries are expected daily
  • Amphitheatre Works
    • bulk earthworks and levelling of new design surfaces
    • expect noise from construction vehicles

11 July 2022 – 17 July 2022

  • Lake Works
    • shallow mixing of soil within the lake
    • multiple truck deliveries are expected daily
    • tree clearing around western edge of lake
  • Amphitheatre Works
    • bulk earthworks and levelling of new design surfaces
    • expect noise from construction vehicles

Project details
The iconic UQ lake and amphitheatre is being transformed into a self-sustaining ecosystem that offers habitat for wildlife and more opportunities for people to enjoy the area.
