Lakes and Amphitheatre Project

21 Sep 2022

Construction works for the UQ Lakes Renewal and Amphitheatre Upgrade Project are progressing with mass soil mixing continuing in the lake and structural and civil works continuing in the Amphitheatre.
There are delays expected due to the previous and expected wet weather.

Please refer to the attached image for impacts to pathways, roads, and bicycle lanes.

This project is expected to be complete in April 2023, a timeline can be found on the project website.

Affected Areas

Roads, Footpaths and Cycleways:

  • Pedestrian and cyclist pathways are closed for the entirety of the works. Please refer to attached image for an alternative route.

  • Road closure at the corner of College Road & Thynne Road will be in place until the end of the project.
Access to Colleges via College Road and access to P11 via Thynne Road.

  • Traffic control will be in place on Jocks Road & College Road to manage vehicle movements.

  • Increased construction vehicle movements on College Rd to commence from 21 September 2022 (weather dependant) with upwards of 50 truck deliveries expected per day.
This is anticipated to continue until early November for both the cut and fill and clay liner works.

  • These deliveries will use the site access gate along College Road (opposite the Women's College) and will require a partial closure of College Road, reducing the road to contraflow under the supervision of Traffic Control (refer image 1 below). This may cause some delays.

Noise & Odour:

  • The UQ neighbourhood / community can expect a level of odour to become present as the lake continues being stabilised.

  • Clearing of final tree and mulching scheduled for the first week of October (4 – 7 October). Expected increased noise levels during this period.

The UQ neighbourhood / community can expect an increased level of noise associated with the truck deliveries commencing from 21 September 2022.
