Lakes & Amphitheatre Renewal: Project Progress

Construction works for the UQ Lake and Amphitheatre Renewal Project continue, with the recent dry weather enabling significant progress. Works have progressed were possible through softscape/hardscape landscaping in the amphitheatre and the lake.

The Amphitheatre will be partially opened in August 2023 and the Lake is expected to be opened in September 2023 (depending on weather).

Affected area

Roads, Footpaths and Cycleways:

  • Pedestrian and cyclist pathways are closed for the entirety of the works.
  • Road closure at corner of College Road & Thynne Road will be in place until the end of the project. Access to Colleges via College Road and access to P11 via Thynne Road.
  • Traffic control will be in place on Jocks Road & College Road to manage vehicle movements as required.

Noise:

  • Truck movements and excavator noise

    • Placement of plants
    • Boardwalk and handrail installation
    • Concrete works for the boardwalk
    • Topsoil and sand placement
    • Sandstone placement
    • Pump installation
    • Installation of light fittings
    • Installation of fountain
  • Amphitheatre Works
    • Planting
    • Light installation
    • Irrigation installation and commissioning
    • Laying of turf

Week commencing 7th of August

  • Partial opening of the amphitheatre
  • Fencing around the top of the Amphitheatre (Staff House Rd) to be removed

26 July and 27 July 2023 - Irrigation works outside of site boundary

Works associated with the connection of the Lakes irrigations system will be taking place adjacent to the footpath identified in the plan below. Under boring to this footpath will be undertaken, in the location nominated in red in Image 1 below, which will not impact use of the footpath.
Traffic control will be in place whilst the works are taking place and the works will generally give way to pedestrian access.
