December 2023 Road Closures: Gatton Graduation Ceremonies

4 Dec 2023

The University of Queensland will be hosting the December 2023 graduations at Gatton on Thursday 7 December 2023.

Please note the key dates, affected areas and road closures below.

Key dates

Set up: Monday 4 December – Wednesday 6 December 2023
Ceremonies: Thursday 7 December 2023 at 11:00am and 2:30pm
Pack up: Friday 8 December 2023

If you would like further details on the ceremony schedule, please see the graduation webpage.

Affected areas

Graduation ceremonies will be held in the Gymnasium followed by post-ceremony celebrations in the Dining Hall and Central Walkway. A large number of graduates and their guests will be present and moving constantly, increasing pedestrian traffic throughout these areas.

We request that noise, unnecessary vehicle movement and/or construction works in and around the affected areas are reduced to enhance our graduates' experience and minimise risk.

Road closures

Road closures will be in place during graduations due to increased pedestrian traffic. These road closures are essential to reduce the risks associated with the large number of people and suppliers on campus.

UQ Security will be onsite managing the closures and allowing restricted access only to graduations providers during periods of low risk, and Emergency Services vehicles (if required).

Below is a list of roads that will be closed to vehicle access on Thursday 7 December 2023:

  • Inner Ring Road from Morrison Hall to behind the Gymnasium
  • Galletly Road around the Gymnasium
  • The road behind the Gymnasium
  • Access to the swimming pool car park will be one way only.

Please see attached map for a markup of these closures.

Intercampus shuttle bus stop - temporarily moved

Due to the increased foot traffic on Inner Ring Road, the intercampus shuttle bus stop will be temporarily moved on Thursday 7 December 2023. The temporary bus stop will be located on the corner of Inner Ring Road and Chapel Hill road.

Please feel free to forward this onto your external stakeholders who may be affected and please notify your relevant clients as required.

You are welcome to contact UQ Principal Events Officer Adam Sehnoun should you have any questions.

We thank you for your cooperation in providing a safe and memorable experience for graduates and their guests.

We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your understanding during this time.
