Lakes & Amphitheatre Renewal: Project Progress

Construction works for the UQ Lake and Amphitheatre Renewal Project continue, with the recent dry weather enabling significant progress.
Works have progressed were possible through softscape/hardscape landscaping in the amphitheatre and the lake.

The site location and impacts to pathways, roads and bicycle lanes is shown on the attached site map.

This project is expected to be complete in September 2023 (weather dependant), a timeline can be found on the project website.

Affected areas

Roads, Footpaths and Cycleways:

  • Pedestrian and cyclist pathways are closed for the entirety of the works.
  • Road closure at corner of College Road & Thynne Road will be in place until the end of the project. Access to Colleges via College Road and access to P11 via Thynne Road.
  • Traffic control will be in place on Jocks Road & College Road to manage vehicle movements as required.
  • 13/09/23 - 15/09/23 – The Staff House Road footpath adjacent to General Purpose South Building will be closed to allow for the reinstatement works to take place, refer to Image 1 for exact location.
    During this time, pedestrians will need to use the footpath on the other side of the road.

Commenced 7 September 2023 – 29 September 2023

  • Lake Works
    • Placement of plants, turf, sandstone and sand
    • Existing boardwalk timber and handrail installation
    • Fountain and transfer pump installation
    • Fountain pipework connection
    • Installation of lighting
    • Footpath rectification works around lake edge
    • Lighting installation to pathway adjacent Conifer Knoll
    • Removal of site sheds and make-good of bike path at College Rd – w/c 11th September
    • Site fencing removal - TBC
  • Amphitheatre Works
    • Defect rectification
    • Handrail and balustrade installation
    • Partial opening of the Amphitheatre
