Power Shutdown: QBP (80) Chiller Plant

15 Sep 2023

There will be a shutdown of the electrical supply to QBP (80) Chiller plant to upgrade the mechanical services switchboards.

Affected areas

  • All areas of QBP (80) and the Controlled Environment Facility.

When

  • Start: Monday, 18 September 2023
  • Finish: Monday, 18 September 2023
  • Times: 4:00am to 2:00pm

Work details

The chilled water to QBP and the CEF will be supplied by the new chiller 3 which has more than enough capacity to handle the air conditioning cooling load of both buildings.
In the unlikely circumstance that Chiller 3 becomes unavailable, load shedding of cooling to non-critical air conditioning spaces will be administered.

Project details

The chillers which provide chilled water for the air conditioning in QBP have reached end of life. One chiller has already been replaced with two more scheduled for next winter.
The electrical boards that supply the chillers and associated pumps are non-conforming to present standards and are also being upgraded.
