RCD & Emergency Light Testing: Various Building and Sites

9 Jun 2023

RCD and Emergency Light Testing

Pursuant to the Electrical Safety Act 2002, there is a legal obligation for RCD trip testing and emergency light testing to be conducted. These tests will be performed by UGL.

Date: Please refer to the attached schedule for RCD and/or emergency light testing in July 2023 (PDF, 202.6 KB)

Time: Between 8:00 AM and 2:00 PM

Please note there is a Black Test at Therapies (84) on the 12th July 2023.

Defect Liability Periods

If there are any buildings listed in this month's schedule that are still within their defects liability period, please contact UGL immediately to notify them. Failure to do so may result in the testing being conducted in those areas, along with the associated costs and any necessary repairs.

Sensitive Equipment

If there is any sensitive equipment or specific procedures in the buildings listed in this month's schedule, please notify UGL immediately. Please note that if there is sensitive equipment or specific procedures, UQ is required to provide a representative to assist with the testing. UGL will not be held liable for any damages to sensitive equipment if they have not been notified of the requirements related to that equipment.

Work details

Test 1: RCD Testing

There will be a loss of power supply to power outlets (RCD testing) from 6.00 AM to 8.00 AM, unless there are any failures. This work will result in the loss of power to power points, other equipment (including computer servers), and lighting. Please make sure to turn off computers and other electrical devices during the power outage. The loss of power is estimated to last from 10 to 20 minutes. In the event that non-conforming devices are found, the power outage time may be extended due to the time required to replace the defective device.

Test 2: Emergency Lighting Testing

There will be a loss of power supply to lighting circuits between 6.00 AM and 8.00AM. During the Exit and Emergency lighting tests, disruptions will be kept to a minimum. However, due to the building design in some cases, only emergency lighting will be available during the test (which typically lasts 90 minutes).

Test 3: Thermoscanning

This is a non-invasive test and there will be no power shutdown.

Program Changes

Any requests to change the attached program must be communicated to the UGL staff listed below in writing before the date of testing. Changes will only be accepted if confirmed in writing by UGL staff once implemented.
