Construction works for the UQ Lake and Amphitheatre Renewal Project continue, however progress has been significantly impacted by rain over the past few months. Works have progressed where possible through softscape/hardscape landscaping in the amphitheatre and the lake.
This project is expected to be complete in August 2023 (weather dependant), a timeline can be found on the project website.
Affected areas
Roads, Footpaths and Cycleways:
- Pedestrian and cyclist pathways are closed for the entirety of the works, as nominated in the attached site map.
- Road closure at corner of College Road & Thynne Road will be in place until the end of the project. Access to Colleges via College Road and access to P11 via Thynne Road.
- Traffic control will be in place on Jocks Road & College Road to manage vehicle movements as required.
Noise:
- Increased noise is anticipated to continue due to paver cutting in the Amphitheatre.

- Lake Works
- Topsoiling of southern wetland (pending dry-back of material)
- Boardwalk Weir spillway treatment and steel structure install
- Relocation of sandstone blocks to create new lake edge
- Transfer Pump Wet-well Construction at Boardwalk 1
- Closure until Friday 26th May: Extension of footpath closure for installation of remaining electrical/comms conduits and pits outside of project fencing, refer Image 1.
- Amphitheatre Works
- Sandstone cladding of walls/seats
- Works to Lake/Amphitheatre interface outlet
- Irrigation and Landscaping to general area
- Installation of cabling for new electrical/communications and install new light-poles
- Fit-out of seat lighting
